MILITARY BRANCH SITE ROSTER A SITE TO SEE ENROLLMENT PLATOON ROSTER PLATOON GROUPS ASK SGT. MIKE RED BOOK & AWARDS DISCLAIMER px DESPERATE banner

This site was launched on June 30, 2001 with about
410 names . . . and has been updated frequently, thereafter.
After 15.5 years, the site name extension changed from
"5u" to "itgo" and traffic ground to an immediate halt.
Now, two years later, things have been modified
and the new name is platoonhalt.com, but either
address will bring you here.

I don't know if you ever thought about it, but,
unbelievable as it might be, there are only
about 210,000 Marines on active duty today.
Only about 10,000 are serving in Afghanistan.
The rest are discharged, retired

As of the names of 4,910

 military women and men
are listed herein, in a logical and systematic manner
to make discovering your Boot Camp Buddy simpler.

Notice:
If you or someone you know has lost a military loved one whose body
was not recovered or is Missing in Action, from ANY war, it is important
to contact their military branch so that a DNA sample can be taken
and compared to the remains that have been recovered. There have
been numerous remains recovered whose identity remains a mystery
because there is no DNA match on file. It is also important to know that
the DNA match must come from the Mother's side of the family,
as the Father's DNA goes away after death.

You do not have to be off Active Duty to join
your branch's League and the rewards
are uncountable.  Most members of the League
fought in wars long before you were even
a gleam in your father's eye.
The stories you can hear... Oh my!

Now-let's see if we can get that Lay-Over Barracks
in Yemassee set back up!  Watch HERE for updates.
Go to http://www.yemassee.net/usmcbks-1.htm
for more details and to help.

The plans is to move this Old Marine lay-over barracks  to here!  Original site of Marine Lay-over barracks in Yemassee, SC

First Annual Marine Reunion held at Yemassee Railraod Platform. September 19, 2003
Were you there?

Some time before the end of 2005, the traditional white fence (as seen in the second photograph below) was set back up
around the property, but the barracks remains filled with furniture, awaiting its debarkation.

Kindly drop Sgt. Mike an e-mail if this site actually helps you
rediscover and reconnect with someone with whom you went through basic training.

Go to the "ENROLLMENT" tab to see the tally by Military Branch.

This count does not include many of the 2,056 names shown under
"Platoon Rosters" by Individual Platoon listing that do not have e-mail data
shown with them, other then the individual who submitted the list.

It also excludes the 63 names on the disclaimer page
since their e-mail addresses could not be verified.

Good luck on finding a Boot Camp buddy.

Be sure to check out the "Undetermined" tabs to see if
you or a buddy are listed there before you go on leave.

And...

Be sure to check out  our site award under "Platoon Books"...

WHEN SGT. MIKE WAS ONLY A PRIVATE!
HOW ABOUT THAT COOL BUS DRIVER HAT!

MY NAME IS MICHAEL T. WORDEN.  I GRADUATED FROM MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT BOOT CAMP ON PARRIS ISLAND,
PLATOON 264 IN APRIL 1966.
I SERVED ON ACTIVE DUTY IN THE MARINEs FOR JUST OVER FOUR YEARS; OR MORE PRECISELY,  1,569 DAYS.

387 DAYS OF THAT WERE SPENT IN VIETNAM WITH ECHO (105 HOWITZER artillery) BATTERY, 2ND BATTALION / 12TH MARINES,
3RD MARINE DIVISION (LESS THE 7 DAYS ON R&R IN HONG KONG).
AT LEAST HALF OF THAT 387 DAYS, I WAS IN THE BOONIES WITH 2ND BATTALION / 9TH MARINES OF WHICH I AM PROUD TO CLAIM MEMBERSHIP.

I WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS AN AIRBORNE, SCUBA DIVING, RADIO OPERATING, PATHFINDING, CONNIVING AND RECONNOITERING PLATOON SERGEANT
WHILE SERVING WITH 2ND FORCE RECON AT CAMP GEIGER, N.C.

I was not searching for anyone particular when I realized the need for this data base,
but got excited when I saw I had the mechanism available to assist many people who had military backgrounds
try to reconnect with someone who encountered and endured a life altering experience along with them.

In doing my research, I found listings of recruits who for one reason or another did not complete their BASIC training
along side those they  started with. Their names are listed on these pages as well.
i could feel the anguish in their writing for not having completed their  mission.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, many stumble upon this site and think that Sgt. Mike is an authority on military history
and can help them find anyone.  Such is not the case, but I do enjoy hearing from you.

I took certain liberties while creating this database that I perhaps had neither the right nor the authority to take.

However, if in my searching, no Boot Camp Location was mentioned, I tried to interpolate the correct location,
due to the recruit’s location east or west of  the Mississippi.
IF I FOUND YOU BUT ASSIGNED YOU TO THE INCORRECT RECRUIT LOCATION, I WILL GLADLY CORRECT IT.

Some of the data contained in these pages came from http://www.pos.net/Marine/lostbuds.html
as a result of rifling through page after page of listings
which is exactly why this site was created.

Others were found at
  http://company169.community.everyone.net
/commun_v3/scripts/directory.pl
and others logged onto
http://www.geocities.com/platoon264
and signed the Guest book.

If you have Updated me, you should find your information posted there within 48 hours.
If you find that it contains errors, click HERE  to e-mail me at
Sgt.Mike@Comcast.net
or go the the Site Roster page and fill in your data and note in the comments box that it is a correction.
If sending e-mail, be sure to reiterate your platoon number so I can find you to make the updates.

Some pages take a while to load due to the volume of data on them. Please be patient until
a better method can be implemented.  I have tried to break the data up
as best I could to facilitate  faster loading of each page.

AS I QUESTIONED PEOPLE I MET ABOUT THEIR MILITARY AFFILIATION; PEOPLE I PRESUMED SHOULD HAVE FIT THE CRITERIA
FOR HAVING BEEN IN THE MILITARY, BY REASON OF DRAFT OR OBLIGATION, SO MANY OF THEM APOLOGIZED FOR WHAT EVER REASON
THEY HAD AT THAT TIME THAT KEPT THEM FROM GOING INTO THE SERVICE.

"OH, BUT MY BEST FRIEND WAS IN THE ARMY (OR NAVY OR NATIONAL GUARD OR THE MARINES) . . . BLAH, BLAH, BLAH,  . . . YATTA, YATTA, YATTA."

Kindest Regards, AND Semper Fidelis. now get out there on the grinder and line up alphabetically, by height in pairs of three!

SGT MIKE.

Come back often because the lists are modified almost daily.
